There's a nice list of issues in Intrepid after upgrading. And there's more from other users in the comments. So read this post before considering the upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 unless you've got some time on your hands.

Better yet, do what I didn't do. Use the "Create a USB startup disk" function in Ubuntu 8.10 to install Ubuntu to your flash drive, and then run from your flash drive for a few days to identify issues. I'll definitely do that next time.
